Jamie started out working as a mortgage adviser within a national estate agency, embedded alongside property sales teams at the coalface of the home-buying process. It's where he learned that getting a mortgage isn't just a financial transaction, it's one of the most significant moments in a person's life, and it deserves to be handled with real care.
From there, he moved into self-employment as an adviser at a large brokerage specialising in new build properties. New build mortgages are among the most technically demanding in the market, tight exchange deadlines, builder incentives, evolving government schemes, and working in that environment gave Jamie a level of precision and problem-solving ability that has served every client since.
In 2019, he took everything he had built and learned and founded Alexander Southwell Mortgages, his own independent brokerage. Over the six years that followed, Jamie and his team submitted over 2,500 mortgages. They weathered the COVID-19 pandemic, navigated the cost-of-living crisis, and came out the other side stronger, not despite putting clients first, but because of it.
